CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M’s Alyssa Lemos continued to add hardware to her already impressive trophy case on Wednesday morning as the senior shortstop was named a CoSIDA/Capital One 1st Team Academic All-American for her efforts in the classroom. This is the second straight academic All-American award that Lemos has received, being named to the association’s second team last season.
Lemos has continued to be one of the top shortstops in all of Division II during her senior season, hitting .335 with 13 doubles, three triples and 12 homeruns to drive in 44 RBI for a slugging percentage of .632 while walking a team leading 54 times for an on-base percentage of .492. The Grapevine, Texas native is the all-time DII career leader in walks, entering the weekend with 177 while starting all 241 games of her storied career at shortstop while registering a fielding percentage of .966 with 37 putouts and 106 assists.
Lemos was a First Team All-LSC selection while being named to the league's Golden Glove team for the second straight season. Lemos was named to the Daktronics All-South Central Region 1st Team for her efforts on the diamond while also excelling in the classroom, being named the 2014 WTAMU President’s Award recipient for the top graduating female student-athlete as well as a two-time CoSIDA/Capita One Academic All-American.
The Lady Buffs will make their first ever appearance in the NCAA Division II College World Series on Thursday afternoon as the begin play against the East Region Champion #20 Pioneers of LIU-Post with first pitch set for 1:30 p.m. CT at the Moyer Sports Complex in Salem, Virginia.
