(NBC News) President Obama is planning to pull U.S. military forces out of Afghanistan by December if a new deal isn't soon reached with Afghan leaders.
Mr. Obama is fighting to save his original plan for Afghanistan, currently endangered by Afghan President Hamid Karzai.
Karzai has enraged many in Washington by refusing to sign a new security agreement with the United States.
U.S. Nato allies told Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel Wednesday their 5,000 troops won't stay either if President Karzai refuses to sign the new security agreement.
Karzai is hinting he wants to wait until after he runs for re-election in April.
