Background on the I Can Read! Program:
Created in 1957 specifically for beginning readers, the I Can Read! books feature satisfying stories about beloved characters, meant to hook children on reading and give them the confidence to read on their own.  They continue to set the standard for books for beginning readers, featuring first-rate authors and illustrators.  Awards and acclaim include both a Newbery Honor and a Caldecott Honor for Arnold Lobels Frog and Toad books.  With over 400 titles, I Can Read! books feature children's literature favorites such as Amelia Bedelia, Danny and the Dinosaur, Biscuit, Fancy Nancy, Pinkalicious, Splat the Cat and Pete the Cat!
 
About The Learn to Read with Tug The Pup and Friends box sets:
Each box set contains 11 lively stories with full-color illustrations plus a parent guide and reward stickers.  The program uses a building-block approach that will take beginners through the proven steps for successful reading.  With the help of the Parent Guide, parents will build confident readers by talking about the book, introducing new words and comprehension strategies, reading and re-reading favorite titles, encouraging them to respond to the book, express opinions and make connections to their own worlds.
 
BIO:  An international educational consultant, Julie M. Wood, Ed.D. served as a Director of the Jeanne Chall Reading Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE). Dr. Julies clients include Apple, Disney Interactive, Nickelodeon, EtonKids Educational Group in Beijing, and PBS Interactive where she serves as the Senior Literacy Advisor for new projects. A former public school teacher and editor, she holds an Ed.M in Technology Innovation & Education and an Ed.D. in Language & Literacy from HGSE. She currently serves as the Academic Learning Specialist at the Kingsley Montessori School in Boston. Her co-authored book, TechnoTeaching: Taking Practice to the Next Level in a Digital World, with U.K. educator Nicole Ponsford, which was just launched in May, 2014, by Harvard Education Press.
