League of Women Voters Hosting Meet the Candidates Night

The program will begin at 7 p.m., when each candidate will be introduced and have an opportunity to make a statement giving their reasons for seeking office and what they hope to accomplish.
AMARILLO -- The League of Women Voters of Amarillo is hosting a Meet the Candidates reception and program tonight at the Amarillo College Downtown Campus auditorium, 1314 S. Polk at 6:30 p.m.

Refreshments and an opportunity to informally meet the candidates in the upcoming Primary Election will begin at 6:30 p.m.  The program will begin at 7 p.m., when each candidate will be introduced and have an opportunity to make a statement giving their reasons for seeking office and what they hope to accomplish.

"Tonight's event will give voters an opportunity to know who is running for office in Potter and Randall counties-both Democrat and Republican, opposed and unopposed-and hear their views on the issues," said Robert Goodrich, event chairman.  "They can also visit with the candidates before and after the program, as time allows, and let them know their concerns.  This will help them make more informed choices at the ballot box."

Local candidates in opposed races include those running for U.S. Representative in District 13, Texas state senator, Texas state representative in District 87, Potter County judge, Potter County court-at-law judge #1, and Randall County clerk.  Others are running unopposed for various Potter and Randall County offices.  All have been invited to participate.

"The League expects to have its nonpartisan Voters Guide available that evening," said Rose Lee Powell, League president.  "Early voting in the March 4th primary begins February 18 and continues through February 28."
