Lake Meredith National Recreation Area will officially open the first phase of new trails this weekend.
In the midst of the drought, the park is focusing less on the lake and more on the land.
"I know when the marina closed up, people think there's nothing to do here, but there's still a lot of good, great, and fun opportunities for the family to come out," Robert J. Maguire, Park Superintendent said.
The Lake Meredith National Recreation Area debuted a brand new trail this spring, and the park will celebrate the grand opening over the weekend.
There may not be near as much water, but there's still plenty to do. The new Harbor Bay Trail features a five mile loop around the park.
But the most unique part of the new trail? It's not just for hikers. Mountain bikes will be allowed on loop.
"This is a little unusual for the National Park Service. There's a few other national parks that allow mountain biking. And this is a big step to get mountain biking in some national parks, and so we are one of the first to do that. And we're excited about it, because it will get new type of visitor to the area," Maguire said.
Bringing in new visitors, for a new experience at Lake Meredith.
The grand opening will take place at 9 am on Saturday, May 3rd at the Harbor Bay Boat Launch.
