CANYON – Coming off of a national runner-up finish in 2013-14, West Texas A&M Lady Buff head women’s basketball coach Mark Kellogg announced the 2014-15 schedule Wednesday.  The slate features 14 home games and eight games against six teams who competed in the NCAA Tournament a year ago.

The Lady Buffs have 14 regular season home games in 2014-15 as the team when a perfect 14-0 in the friendly confines of the First United Bank Center last season, including hosting the NCAA South Central Regional.  Three teams on the 2014-15 season slate won 20 games or more last season with Harding winning 29, followed by Truman State and Tarleton State each winning 22.  Harding, Truman and Tarleton each earned berths in the NCAA Tournament, along with Texas A&M-International, Western Washington and Midwestern State.

The season begins at home for the first time since 2009-2010 with Texas-Permian Basin on Nov. 14 at the First United Bank Center.  The Lady Buffs then travel to Western State and Adams State Nov. 21-22, before returning home to host the PAK-A-SAK Lady Buff Thanksgiving Classic against Truman State and Harding on Nov. 28-29.

Following the Thanksgiving classic, the Lady Buffs continue their five-game home stand with Oklahoma Panhandle State on Dec. 3, followed by home dates with Oklahoma Christian and Texas A&M-International on Dec. 6 and Dec. 14, respectively.  The Lady Buffs close the non-conference slate Dec. 18 and Dec. 19 against Western Washington and Northwest Nazarene at the South Point Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas, Nev.  Both WWU and NNU are in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.  WT downed Simon Fraser and Seattle Pacific last season which also are in the GNAC.

“The goal with scheduling this year was to test our team throughout the non-conference schedule in November and December,” Kellogg said.  “We think we have built a solid schedule with quality opponents who will help prepare us for the Lone Star Conference.  We will rely early on our veterans to show our seven newcomers what it takes to win at a high level.”

The Lady Buffs open 2015 with a road game at LSC rival Midwestern State on Jan. 7 in the First United Bank Highway 287 Challenge Cup.  The Lady Buffs then open the home conference season with Cameron and Angelo State on Jan. 10 and Jan. 14, respectively.  Trips to Texas A&M-Kingsville (Jan. 17) and Tarleton State follow (Jan. 21).  Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman’s visit back-to-back days on Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 as WT closes the month at Eastern New Mexico on Jan. 31 and the first half of conference play.

February begins with a road game at Angelo State on Feb. 4, followed by home tilts with Texas A&M-Kingsville and Midwestern State, Feb. 7 and Feb. 11, respectively.

Valentine’s Day will be spent in Lawton, Okla., as the Lady Buffs travel to Cameron beginning a stretch of three of the final five regular season games away from home.  A home date with Tarleton State (Feb. 18) follows and the road slate closes with games at Texas A&M-Commerce and Texas Woman’s on Feb. 21-22.

The regular season closes with a home game against Eastern New Mexico on Feb. 28, followed by the Lady Buffs heading to the Lone Star Conference Tournament looking to defend their title from last season, Mar 4-7 at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas.

Following the LSC Championship, the NCAA South Central Regional is set for Mar. 13-16 at a campus site and then the NCAA Division II Elite Eight is scheduled for Mar. 24-27 at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.

The Lady Buffs are coming off of a 32-3 record and a 15-1 mark in Lone Star Conference play as they won both the LSC regular season and tournament championship in Kellogg’s first season.  WT won the South Central Regional and finished national runner-up falling 73-65 to Bentley.  The Lady Buffs finished second in the final WBCA Coaches Poll.

WT returns nine players from last year’s team including Honorable Mention All-America selection in senior Chontiquah White.  She has scored 1,150 career points and 647 rebounds in her three years on the team.  The Lady Buffs have added the services of three true freshmen, along with four transfers.
