CANYON -- West Texas A&M University President J. Patrick OBrien has named Michael J. Knox as the Universitys new vice president for student affairs, pending approval by The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents. Knox will begin his duties at WTAMU on August 11.

He is filling a position vacated at the end of July by Dr. Donna Eddleman, who has accepted a position with NYU Abu Dhabi. Jon Davis, associate vice president for student affairs, is filling in as the interim vice president for student affairs until Knoxs arrival.

Knox comes to WTAMU from The University of Texas at Arlington, where he has served as assistant vice president for student affairs since 2007. He brings with him more than 15 years of experience in student affairs administration and is a strong supporter of student initiatives and programs.

The vice president for student affairs at WTAMU is responsible for a full range of duties that include overseeing programs, organizations and services in student affairs, the Jack B. Kelley Student Center, recreational sports, Student Government, residential living, student services, educational services and student judicial affairs.

"Michael comes to WT with the type of experience that is a perfect fit for our needs," O'Brien said. "His passion for student success will ensure our students have the very best experience possible, and we are all excited to welcome him to campus."

Knox earned his bachelors degree in kinesiology in 1995 from Texas A&M University and a masters degree in higher education administration in 1999 from The University of Pennsylvania.

"It is an honor to have the opportunity to join the West Texas A&M and Canyon community," Knox said. "I have been so impressed by the student-centered focus that is evident throughout the University. I look forward to collaborating with students, faculty, staff, administration and the Canyon community to continue to build an environment where students can achieve their goals and dreams."
