Jangthongsiri Opens NCAA Championship with a 76 Wednesday

West Texas A&M sophomore Glory Jangthongsiri is tied for 22nd after the first round of the 2014 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship.

CONOVER, N.C. – West Texas A&M sophomore Glory Jangthongsiri is tied for 22nd after the first round of the 2014 NCAA Division II Women’s Golf Championship Wednesday at the Rock Barn Golf & Spa Course in Conover, N.C.  Jangthongsiri opened with a 76 on Wednesday.

Jangthongsiri, a native of Bangkok, Thailand, finished with a 5-over 76 as she opened the tournament with a 1-over 36 with one birdie and two bogeys.  On the back nine, she had two bogeys and one double bogey for a 4-over 40 on the par 71 5,928-yard course.  She is in a 7-way tie for 22nd

California Baptist individual Tina Yang leads the field after carding a 1-under 70.  Rollins’ Hally Leadbetter is second with a 71.  In the team standings, Lynn (Fla.) leads the 12-team field with a 294, edging Rollins (Fla.) by three strokes.  Lone Star Conference member Tarleton State is third with a 300, followed by Central Oklahoma (301) and Barry (Fla.) has a 305 to round out the top five.

A total of 72 golfers are competing in the national championship.  The top three teams from each of the four super regionals and the top three finishers each of the four super regionals from non-advancing teams qualify for the national championship. 

Lenoir-Rhyne University is the host for the championship as the Rock Barn Golf & Spa hosted the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf South and Southeast Super Regional in 2012 and will host the Division II Men’s Golf National Championship in 2015.
