CANYON – West Texas A&M senior pitcher Dylan James and senior outfielder Tyler McKnight were named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Honorable Mention All-America and James was named ABCA Third Team All-America.
James, a native of Las Cruces, N.M., set the school record with 126 strikeouts this season, topping his previous best of 95 set last year. His 126 strikeouts is third nationally as he was tabbed the LSC Pitcher of the Year. He was a first team NCBWA and Daktronics All-Region select ion, while earning All-South Central Region Tournament accolades. James ranks third in hits allowed at just 5.74, while averaging 11.57 strikeouts per game which is 11th in the nation.
James' nine wins on the year (9-3) tied the school record for wins in a season with Justin Kuks (2012) and Jason Patrick (1995). He also broke the school record for innings pitched in a season with 98, topping the previous mark of 96 set by Jason Patrick in 1995. He also broke the school-record for starts with 15, while his 2.30 ERA this season is the second-best in school history behind his mark of 1.83 set in 2013.
He is the lone representative from the Lone Star Conference on the Rawlings/ABCA All-America Team.
Last season James earned NCBWA Honorable Mention All-America honors and Daktronics Honorable Mention accolades.
McKnight, a Durango, Colo., native, hit a team-best .392 and was third in hits with 78. McKnight was third in doubles with 12, while leading the team with six triples and had two round-trippers. He drove in 37 and scored 39 runs, while slugging .543 which was second on the team. McKnight went 11 of 13 in stolen bases to lead the team and had 97 put outs with three assists and just two errors on the year.
He earned first team all-conference honors and academic all-league honors. McKnight earned first team NCBWA all-region honors and Daktronics all-region accolades. He also was a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-Region selection.
