Hostage Situation Ends Peacefully in Central Lubbock

LUBBOCK -- A hostage situation Thursday evening in Central Lubbock ended peacefully with all hostages released and one man taken into custody.  Around 6:15 Thursday evening police responded to a home on the 1500 block of 45th street after police said an officer fired one shot toward a suspect and three shots were returned by the man.

The man then retreated into a nearby house, taking an unrelated woman and 5 year old child hostage.

The police SWAT team responded, along with a police negotiator.  After more than two hours of negotiations the man agreed to come out of the house peacefully.

The area was blocked off to the public, with police going inside homes to retrieve residents and take them out of the immediate area.  Police said they believe the suspect from the hostage situation was also the suspect from the previous night's Stripes robberies.
