A Texas lawyer is suing General Motors on behalf of more than 600 people injured or killed in crashes allegedly caused by ignition switch defects.

The lawsuit was filed tuesday in a US District Court in New York.

All of the victims were involved in crashes after GM emerged from bankruptcy protection in 2009.

But not all of the victims may be eligible for compensation.
