Explosion Levels New York Buildings

Gas leak suspected in blast that toppled Harlem apartment buildings, leaving at least two dead and 24 injured.
(NBC News)   A Smoldering pile of brick and metal is all that's left of two East Harlem apartment buildings following a Wednesday morning explosion.

At least two people were killed and dozens more were wounded.

The blast was felt up to a mile away.

The explosion scattered debris into the street, onto nearby buildings and even onto the elevated tracks of the adjacent Metro North Railroad.

The buildings that collapsed were five stories tall and contained a church and piano store, along with apartments.

Someone reported a gas smell in the area shortly before the blast.

Crews arrived to investigate just moments after the buildings exploded.
