PORTALES -- The Blackwater Draw National Historic Landmark at Eastern New Mexico University is hosting the annual "Prehistory of New Mexico Day" from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3.
The site is six miles north of Portales on NM 467.
There will be demonstrations of Atlatl throwing, sandal making, cooking, fiber working and discussions with archaeologists.
The event is in conjunction with New Mexico's Department of Cultural Affairs "Heritage Preservation Month" with assistance from the Office of Archaeological Studies and local participants. The event is free and open to the public.
