(NBC News) An intensive effort is underway to evacuate two Americans infected with Ebola from West Africa in order to bring them back to the United States for treatment.
It's a global process that will require caution every step of the way, bringing the two infected Americans to Emory University in Atlanta using specialized medevac planes with isolated chambers.
"We've developed a unit that can safely care for a patient with a communicable disease, delivering the highest level of care required," said Dr. Bruce Ribner a professor in the Emory School of Medicine's Infectious Diseases Division.
There have been more than 1,300 people infected, and more than 700 deaths already during this Ebola outbreak.
