(WHDH) Melinda Costanzo was sleeping in on a Saturday morning while her husband was away, when sudden noises made her fearful.
"I heard a loud bang, which sounded like someone was trying to break into the house. Then all of a sudden I hear scrambling and I knew someone was in the house," Costanzo said.
Costanzo immediately locked herself in the bedroom with her three dogs and called 911. Police came right away and Melinda was relieved, but their first question surprised her.
"He said, 'Do you happen to have a bird?'" she said.
After seeing an imprint in the mirror, police knew the bird had tried to fly into the wall. After searching, they found a duck right behind the sofa.
