Dead Body Ruled Homicide

Autopsy Revealed New Information
AMARILLO -- The death of a man whose body was found in a culvert earlier this week is ruled a homicide.

Police originally thought the death of 68-year old William Pletcher, Junior was an accident. But that has changed.

Police are releasing few details. But they say they're investigating the city's 11th homicide of the year.

William Pletcher, Junior's body was found Wednesday morning in a culvert off I-40 near Osage.

The Special Crimes unit was called out, and they did investigate it as a suspicious death.

But because of his visible injuries, Police thought Pletcher's death was an accident.

Lieutenant Erick Bohannon says that changed after the autopsy.

"The reason we do autopsies is to find out what else may be going on. Low and behold, after the autopsy was complete, we got information from the pathologist that there were other lethal injuries that weren't evident until the autopsy had been performed," he said.

Bohannon would not release the exact cause of death.

Bohannon says they have a pretty good idea where Pletcher was before his death, but would not divulge that information.

So far, no suspects have been identified.
