Collingsworth Sheriff Resigns from Office

Collingsworth Sheriff Jerry Don Allen resigned today after a deal was reached in his Official Misconduct and Abuse of Official Capacity case.
WELLINGTON -- Collingsworth Sheriff Jerry Don Allen resigned today after a deal was reached in his Official Misconduct and Abuse of Official Capacity case.

The former Sheriff was indicted in November of last year after allegations came forward of Allen hiring his step-daughter to work in the Collingsworth County Sheriff's office.

Allen took office in January of 2013 and Allen's step-daughter was hired in April of 2013.

Texas state law prohibits an elected official from hiring relatives to work for them.

As part of the plea deal, Allen will permanently surrender his peace officer's license which stops Allen from working as a peace officer in the state of Texas.
