Mug Shot: Enrique DeLeon
CLOVIS -- Enrique DeLeon, 29, was sentenced to life in prison for the shooting deaths of two people in September of 2011.
DeLeon was convicted by a jury on February 7, 2014, of gunning down his next door neighbors, Joe Valero, 44, and Guadalupe Casteneda, 25, both of Clovis.
The incident occurred on September 13, 2011, in Clovis. During an argument at a backyard barbeque, DeLeon fired multiple rounds from a .45 caliber handgun into the yard where numerous children were playing. Joe Valero was shot twice in the chest and once in the leg; and Guadalupe Casteneda was shot once in the abdomen. Valero died at the scene, and Casteneda died later after being airlifted to a Lubbock hospital. DeLeon was arrested that night by the Clovis Police Department.
Under New Mexico law, DeLeon will have to serve at least 30 years before being eligible for parole.
