"People can come into the library and take advantages of our services and our collection but people can also take advantage of our library by simply visiting our website," says Stacy Clopton Yates, Public Relations Coordinator for the Amarillo Public Library.
The Amarillo Public Library offers many online resources that are available to all ages. Melody, the Technology Services Librarian, says these resources are right at your fingertips. "We have everything from auto repair, Britanica to Mango languages, which is a really cool website that lets you learn one of 57 languages that are available. My favorite is learning to talk like a pirate." "Novelist Plus is for our young adults and adults. We have downloadable e-books from Overdrive, as well as Three-M Cloud library, which are also downloadable books."
Once you choose your book of choice, there's downloadable formats to choose from like e-book, audio book or even a video for select titles.
"If you have Adobe digital editions version or a Kindle that uses the Kindle format that should work as well."
It's as easy as entering your library card number and pin number.
"Library cards are free as long as the individual lives in the surrounding area. There's just a lot available on our website and it's all for free."
"Texshare databases offers a lot of different resources for all our patrons. Teens would be interested in the hobbies and crafts reference center. There's also the home improvement reference center if they're into the big scale projects."
If your teen is gearing up to take a test, well, there's a resource for that.
"Learning Express Library has practice tests for the Star test, practices tests for the SATs. They can instantly grade their test. If they don't have time to take the whole thing they can stop and when they log back in it will pick back up where they stopped."
The library's newest online edition are downloadable magazines from Zinio.
"The collection will get bigger. You can look by genres."
