Amarillo Police Warn Against E-Mail Scam Concerning Municipal Court Appearance

The email may have an attachment that could be harmful to a computer. Do not respond to this email, it is not from the Municipal Court.
AMARILLO -- The City of Amarillos Municipal Court reports receiving several calls with questions about an e-mail received by residents of Amarillo and other cities. It appears to be a court document ordering the recipient to appear for court in Amarillo.  

This e-mail is not from the City of Amarillo. It is unknown if this is a fraud attempt or an attempt to place harmful software on your computer. 

The email may have an attachment that could be harmful to a computer. Do not respond to this email, it is not from the Municipal Court.   

An example of the email is included below:        

Subject: Notice of appearance in court N#0654-564

Notice to Appear, Hereby you are notified that you have been scheduled to appear for your hearing that will take place in the court of Amarillo in May 02, 2014 at 10:00 am.Please bring all documents and witnesses relating to this case with you to Court on your hearing date.The copy of the court notice is attached to this letter.Note: If you do not attend the hearing the judge may hear the case in your absence.
