AMARILLO—Amarillo Police are warning about a scam involving tree trimming and tree spraying

This is a type of service that criminals use to take advantage of people.

Some of the most common frauds originate with door-to-door sales, and the APD believes that criminals promoting their service in this manner are currently active in Amarillo.

Before hiring someone for tree or pesticide spraying services, be sure to check them out thoroughly.

Check to see if they have a permit as required in the City of Amarillo Municipal Code.  They must apply for the permit at the Amarillo Police Department, and must carry the 8 ½ by 11 inch blue permit with them.

Individuals that offer commercial spraying service must comply with state licensing regulations and must operate under a permit issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture, which provides this information on their web site.

Also, check with the Better Business Bureau.
