AMARILLO -- The Amarillo Emergency Communication Center (AECC), in conjunction with the Potter-Randall 911 District, is celebrating National Public Safety Telecommunications Week this week.

"Our dispatchers are always behind the scenes supporting the police, fire and emergency medical personnel," says LouAnn Humphrey, the Amarillo Emergency Communication Center shift supervisor leading the weeks activities. "The valuable service of our emergency responders should be commended all throughout the year. Their commitment and hard work protect countless numbers of lives and property."

Earlier this week, the mayor and council issued a proclamation recognizing NPSTW during their regular City Council meeting.

Today, the AECC will host its annual awards ceremony at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Plaza at the Amarillo Civic Center. Awards and recognitions will include the Public Educator of the Year, Telecommunicator of the Year and Supervisor of the Year.
