Amarillo Animal Control and Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society Participate in Just One Day Campaign

Just One Day is an annual, nationwide event in which animal shelters around the country pledge to cease euthanization of healthy, adoptable pets for one day and instead, offer special incentives to further encourage their adoption into loving homes.

AMARILLO -- Amarillo Animal Control and the Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society are participating in the Just One Day campaign Wednesday, June 11.

Just One Day is an annual, nationwide event in which animal shelters around the country pledge to cease euthanization of healthy, adoptable pets for one day and instead, offer special incentives to further encourage their adoption into loving homes. Amarillo Animal Control and the Amarillo-Panhandle Humane Society are honored to be among the 1,200 organizations that have answered the call to participate this year.

“We’re thrilled about the possibility of getting more of these pets into the caring homes they deserve,” says interim Animal Control Director Scott McDonald.  “We’ve seen good community support regarding the positive changes we have made at our City shelter, and people often ask what they can do to help. Spaying and neutering pets goes a long way toward lowering the unwanted pet population, and adopting shelter pets allows a new lease on life to pets that were abandoned or abused through no fault of their own.”

Special programs offered at the Amarillo Animal Control facility June 11 include half-price adoptions through 7 p.m. The adoption fee covers the first set of vaccinations, spay or neuter (if there are no complications) and a microchip implant.

Amarillo Animal Control is offering free microchip services during this special event between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
