AISD Announces New Athletic Coordinator/Head Football Coach at Caprock High School

Dan Sherwood, who was named Interim Head Coach two weeks ago to finish out spring football, has been part of a resurging Longhorn football program that completed two straight playoff appearances for the first time in school history.

AMARILLO -- AISD Director of Athletics, Brad Thiessen, has announced that he will bring the name of Dan Sherwood to be approved by the AISD Board of Trustees as the Athletic Coordinator / Head Football Coach for Caprock High School.

Sherwood will replace Seth Parr who resigned his position to accept a similar position at Lubbock Coronado.

Sherwood, who was named Interim Head Coach two weeks ago to finish out spring football, has been part of a resurging Longhorn football program that completed two straight playoff appearances for the first time in school history.  In 2011, he was hired as special teams coordinator and was promoted the following year to defensive coordinator.  He has led a defense that has made vast improvement in the past two years.

“As we went through this process, we were really concerned that we find the perfect fit for this situation.  The more people we talked to the more Coach Sherwood’s name kept coming up” said Thiessen.  “With his experience both at WT and at Caprock, it just seemed like he was the right person to keep continuity and stability within this program.  We are really excited for him and the whole Caprock community.”
