UPDATE 11 A.M. 6/4/14 -- The Randall County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as 53-year-old Barney Ferguson
Officials say Ferguson and murder suspect Jerry Bruce Funk were acquaintances before the fatal shooting Monday evening.
Mr. Funk is still in the Randall County Jail with a bond of $150,000.
UPDATE 5 P.M. 6/3/14-- The suspect in the shooting is identified as 54 year old Jerry Bruce Funk.
Justice of the Peace Judge Tracy Byrd set Funk’s bond at $150,000 on the charge of murder.
The victim’s name or any other details of the incident cannot be released at this time.
UPDATE Noon -- The victim of the shooting has died at Northwest Texas Hospital following surgery.
The suspect was released from the hospital and murder charges filed.
The name of the victim cannot be released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
The suspect will be identified once he has been arraigned by a magistrate.
AMARILLO – The Randall County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call around 5:40 p.m. Monday about a shooting in the 2500 block of McCormick Road.
During the investigation, Deputies found out that one man shot another in the lower body from a handgun.
The shooter was still on scene and lived at a residence on the 2500 block of McCormick Road.
Emergency personal took both men Northwest Hospital for care.
The shooting victim is in critical condition after surgery.
The resident has injuries consistent with a fight and is in custody at the hospital and may be treated and released.
Officials say shooting victim came to the McCormick Road residence and got into a confrontation with the shooter who lives there.
The reason for the confrontation is unknown at this time.
Randall County Sheriff’s investigators and CSI personnel are investigating the case.
