AMARILLO -- The students of the United Way of Amarillo and Canyon Youth Leadership Cabinet are allocating more than $52,000 to 19 local agencies today.

The allocations were made possible by donations during the 2013 United Way charitable giving campaign.

The cabinet is made up of 85 students from Amarillo, Canyon, Bushland, River Road and Highland Park school districts. The group ran a campaign during the 2013 fall semester that helped to raise over $60,000.

“ I think it is important for these students to be involved in this process in order to see the big picture of what a collaborative effort this community has to continue to meet the needs of those in crisis” said Katie Noffsker, Executive Director of United Way of Amarillo & Canyon.

This year they received 24 applications from 19 local non-profits. The Youth Cabinet evaluated each application individually, toured each facility and met with the program directors as part of their evaluation process.
