(KGW) Gary Hooper runs the Perk n Beans Cafe in the lobby of the Cowlitz County Hall of Justice.
"For the most part it's pretty quiet in here," said Hooper. "You'll hear people grumbling when they come out of court but that's understandable."
What is not understandable is what happened Tuesday. A woman and her sister carried a pink box through the security checkpoint. Inside the box was a birthday cake.
"We had a little dog in the car and he would've ate it," said Tina Ghee. "We thought it would be safe to bring it in with us."
Moments after Ghee and her sister set the boxed up cake on a table a man with an apparent sweet tooth zeroed in on it.
"Next thing you know he turns around and grabs a hand full of it and he starts eating it and he walks away," said Ghee.
The guy was so bold he returned for seconds. Deputies were not amused. They tackled the man before he could grab thirds.
"I've never seen anything like this in my life," said Ghee.
Hooper watched the scuffle from his cafe. He quickly recognized the hungry man as one of his customers who had exhibited bizarre behavior in the past.
"Ordered a sandwich and started eating it and he says, 'I don't have money,'" said Hooper. "I said, 'you better go find your wife.'"
