Chrysler is expected to file for an initial public offering.
The company, which is majority owned by italian carmaker Fiat, will file documents by the end of September, according to a Fiat spokesman.
Fiat rescued chrysler from bankruptcy in 2009.
It now owns more than 58-percent of the company.
The rest is owned by retiree Union Trust Funds.
Selling Chrysler stock could help the trust funds and Fiat agree on a fair market value for the company.
