Caught: Former Clovis CPA Wanted For Failure To Appear And Embezzlement Charges

Certified public accountant, Charles W. Fleming, 54, is wanted on 20 charges of embezzlement. Fleming was recently arrested for embezzling approximately $296,000.00 from the New Mexico Cattle Growers Foundation.
UPDATE -- Charles W. Fleming was arrested earlier this afternoon in a Lubbock residence.

Fleming's bond is currently set at $250,000 cash only, and he will have an extradition hearing will be set within the week. 

CLOVIS -- Law Enforcement officers from New Mexico and Texas are actively seeking former Clovis, NM, certified public accountant, Charles W. Fleming, 54, who is wanted on 20 charges of embezzlement.  Fleming was recently arrested for embezzling approximately $296,000.00 from the New Mexico Cattle Growers Foundation. 

In 2010 and 2011, Fleming was the treasurer of the Cattle Growers Foundation.  During this time, approximately 20 checks totaling approximately $296,000.00 were issued by Fleming and deposited in his personal bank account in Clovis, NM. In February, 2013, the Cattle Growers President contacted law enforcement about his concerns regarding the accounting practices of the foundations former treasurer, Charles Fleming.

Following an investigation by the New Mexico State Police, an arrest warrant was issued for Fleming and on July 2, 2013 he was apprehended in Lubbock,TX.  However, he recently failed to appear for his first hearing, and Curry County Magistrate Court issued an arrest warrant based upon his failure to appear.  

Officials believe Fleming could be hiding in eastern New Mexico or west Texas. 

Law Enforcement is asking anyone who knows of the whereabouts of Fleming to please contact the New Mexico State Police in Clovis, NM, at 575-763-3426, or the District Attorneys Office at 575-769-2246.  

Callers may remain anonymous and any tip that leads to the arrest of Fleming may result in a reward from Curry County Crime Stoppers of up to $1,000 cash.
