Boeing Developing New Biofuel

Boeing Developing New Biofuel

Boeing announces more green energy initiatives.
Boeing makes a series of announcements as it looks further into green energy.

The US airline maker wants to reduce the industry's overall carbon footprint. In 2012, air transport produced 689-million tons of carbon dioxide.

Boeing and its partners say they have made breakthroughs in researching plants called halophytes, which can be made into biofuel.

The announcement comes on the heels of an initiative unveiled over the weekend for building a biofuel supply chain in the United Arab Emirates.

Last week, Boeing also identified "green diesel" as a biofuel the company says that would emit at least 50-percent less carbon dioxide than fossil fuel.
