Amarillo Police Investigating 4 Car Pileup

A Chevy HHR was going northbound on Coulter when the driver lost control of the vehicle, drove over the concrete median, then struck a 2000 Olds Silhouette Van that was waiting at the red light. The Olds was hit hard enough that it struck a red 2011 Chevy Silverado that in turn struck a 2013 Volkswagen Golf.
AMARILLO -- On Wednesday at 5:34 p.m. Amarillo Police were sent to I-40 and Coulter on a 4 car pileup. 

When officers arrived they discovered the collision was in the 7100 Block W I-40 North Frontal Road. A black Chevy HHR was going northbound on Coulter when the driver lost control of the vehicle, drove over the concrete median, then struck a 2000 Olds Silhouette Van that was waiting at the red light for west bound to north bound traffic for the NFR. 

The Olds was hit hard enough that it struck a red 2011 Chevy Silverado that in turn struck a 2013 Volkswagen Golf. 

The driver of the Olds had to be extricated from the van by the Amarillo Fire Dept. She was transported to a local area hospital with life threatening injuries. 

The driver of the Silverado was taken to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

The driver of the Golf was not injured. 

The driver of the HHR was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

Speed is a factor. Narcotics are a possible factor in this collision. 

The incident is being investigated by the Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Dept.
