Amarillo Police Arrest Assault Suspect on Multiple Charges

The victim was assaulted and held against her will at another location. She had escaped and fled to the relative’s home.
AMARILLO -- On July 28, at 1:13 a.m. Amarillo Police were sent to a home in the 600 block of NE 5th to investigate an assault.

When Officers arrived they found that the victim, 50, was assaulted and held against her will at another location. She had escaped and fled to the relative’s home. The woman was suffering from severe facial bruising and swelling, head injuries, and bruising and abrasions on her body that were consistent with her account of the assault.

Police say the incident started sometime during the evening of July 27. The woman told officers that she was at a commercial building in southeast Amarillo. She was there with Glenn Dale McClure, 51, whom she had been dating.

The victim told officers that McClure became angry with her and blamed her for his outstanding warrants for a parole revocation and an assault. The man began striking her with his fists. He assaulted her repeatedly and would not allow her to leave the shop for an undetermined period of time. When she was finally able to escape, she drove to a home the home on NE 5th to seek assistance.

The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Officers determined that the suspect had an outstanding parole revocation warrant, a felony assault warrant, and a municipal court warrant stemming from an assault.

Shortly after 6:00 a.m. on July 28, they found McClure at the scene of the assault, a furniture repair business in the 1700 block of SE 15th. He had been living there. They entered the building and found the man seated on a sofa. He was holding a knife with the point against his chest. He threatened to harm himself or an officer, or to force an officer to shoot him. Officers negotiated with the man until he agreed to surrender.

McClure was arrested and booked into the Potter Co. Detention Center on a parole revocation warrant, a Potter County warrant charging assault with bodily injury on a family member with previous conviction, and a municipal warrant stemming from a 2005 assault case. The assault with bodily injury warrant was from a May 2013 assault of the same victim.
