AMARILLO -- The City of Amarillo has announced its third Amarillo 101 Citizens Academy. The eight week program offers insight into City government, services, history, and municipal government in general. Applications are currently being accepted for the program, which begins Thursday, September 5.
Amarillo 101 will feature a classroom setting with tours of several City departments as well as three field days. One field day will be to the Citys Service Center where participants will get a chance to operate a variety of heavy equipment used on a daily basis throughout the City. A second field day will highlight the Citys Water Treatment and Distribution operations. The final field day will take place at the Fire Training Center, where various public safety and airport equipment will be available for demonstration and operation.
Sessions will begin Thursday, September 5 and students will graduate during the Amarillo City Commissions meeting on Tuesday, November 5 at 5:30 p.m.

Enrollment is limited to 15 participants and applications must be received no later than Noon on Wednesday, Aug. 28. Applicants will be notified by Friday, Aug. 30, if they have been selected.
