"We do forensic interviews with children ages 2-17, and we work in conjuction with law enforcement and CPS. When children become involved in a case they make be working, rather than passing the child from agency to agency, they bring the child here and we do a video taped forensic interview so the child talks to one person rather than a whole bunch of people from different agencies. That's our primary function here at our agency," explains Managing Interviewer and Facilitator for The Bridge, Shelly Bohannon.
The Bridge gives children a voice, when they need it the most.
"The community awareness and support has been amazing. The community has been really supportive of us and what we do and we always want to thank them for continuing to support us in what we do."
One way that the community supports the child advocacy center is the annual Cold as Ice Race.
"I was a school counselor and I've always thought The Bridge did a great job and is a great organization to help kiddos. We started because we wanted to do a race and benefit a charity. This is our 5th annual race that we've had that's associated with Get Fit and we have a great charity that we donate to. We just love them. They are a wonderful organization that does great things for kiddos, so our net proceeds will benefit the bridge," states Get Fit owner, Karen Roberts.
"They use it primarily for anything that we may need that we don't have something allocated already for. We have a lot of great people that donate to us, which keeps us going and allows us to provide services to the kids. We've been able to add onto our building which has increased our training opportunities for all of our team members and space for our staff," states Shelly.
"We invite people from all ages and even fitness levels, we just ask them to come out and support a great organization," Karen says.
The heroes of our community, step up and take action to support the children.
"We can't provide to the community without the community. The community fills in those gaps for us."
