The Skyrockets were led by Terry Gilbreath who scored two rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. Gilbreath was named the Offensive MVP, but one of his defensive plays served as an early turning point. After Falls City scored on its first possession to take a 6-0 lead, Wellington quarterback Klark Ashmore interception on the Skyrockets first possession. Three plays later Gilbreath intercepted a pass to prevent Falls City from adding to its early lead.
The defense for Wellington was strong throughout the game. Walker Williams deflected a lateral and returned the ball for a touchdown to cap 42 unanswered points and put the game out of reach. Williams was named the defensive MVP.
The Skyrockets finished the season with a record of 14-0. It's the first state title appearance and win for Wellington.
