WT Makes Statement Regarding NCAA Investigation

CANYON -- In a statment released on its website Monday afternoon the West Texas A&M Athletics department acknowledged that it is under investigation by the NCAA.

The statement read:

"Officials at West Texas A&M University have received notice from the NCAA that an investigation is under way into the University's athletics department, specifically the football program.
The investigation relates to a set of violations reviewed by the University and reported to the NCAA. As a result of the Spring 2013 internal review, the University self-imposed sanctions on the football program.
WTAMU officials and individuals will cooperate fully with the NCAA as it pursues this investigation. If violations are substantiated through the investigation process, the case will be handled either through a summary disposition or a hearing process.
The enforcement staff of the NCAA is a cooperative program working with member schools and allied conferences to improve the administration of intercollegiate athletics. Throughout the investigation process, WTAMU will be updated on the status at six-month intervals."

University officials told KAMR NBC 4 that the university would have no further comment on the matter and refused to disclose what the "self-imposed sanctions" were.

The WT football team will begin its season on Saturday in Gunninson, Colorado.  You can see the game live beginning at 1:30 CST on KAMR NBC 4.
