No. 16 West Texas A&M Baseball Hosts Tarleton State for Senior Weekend


CANYON  –  The No. 16 West Texas A&M baseball team concludes the 2014 regular season home slate this weekend as it hosts Tarleton State in a key Lone Star Conference series at Wilder Park.  The three-game series is scheduled for a doubleheader Friday beginning at 5 p.m. and a single game Saturday at 1 p.m.

Saturday also marks Senior Day at Wilder Park as the Buffs have 11 seniors who will be playing in their final home regular season game in a Buffalo uniform.  The 2014 senior class includes; Scott Cone, Steven Diaz, Nick Duncan, David Hebert, Dylan James, Tyler McKnight, Sam Ouellet, Matt Redfearn, Beto Rodriugez, Ashton Sivigliano and Joshua Weyker.

First United Bank is hosting an Ice Cream Social on Friday as there will be free ice cream bars for everyone while supplies last.  Senior Day festivities will begin approximately 15 minutes prior to the first pitch of Saturday's game. 

Live stats and streaming links can be found on  The Buffs enter the final home series of the regular season one game back of LSC-leader Texas A&M-Kingsville.  The winner of the regular season will host the 2014 LSC Baseball Championship, May 8-10.

WT enters the series with a 31-13 record overall and a 19-10 mark in conference play.  The Buffs have assured themselves of a spot in the Lone Star Conference baseball championship.  Tarleton State enters with a 22-20 record overall and a 12-16 mark in league play.  The Texans sit fourth in the league standings heading into the final two weekends. They are 1.5 games ahead of Eastern New Mexico for the final spot in the conference tournament. 

WT sits second in the initial NCAA South Central Region poll which was released Wednesday.  Colorado Mesa leads the way, followed by the Buffs, Texas A&M-Kingsville, St. Edward’s, St. Mary’s and Angelo State round out the top six.  New Mexico Highlands and Colorado State-Pueblo are seventh and eighth, respectively.  The Buffs are 13-7 against the top eight this season and 9-5 against the top six. 

The regional will be May 15-18 which traditionally goes to the top seed as the NCAA Division II baseball selection show is scheduled for May 11 at 9 p.m. CT.  The top six teams earn berths in the regionals and the 2014 Division II College World Series is scheduled for May 24-31 at the USA Baseball Complex in Cary, N.C.

Tarleton State leads the all-time series 53-38.  WT won three of four earlier this season in Stephenville as WT head coach Matt Vanderburg improved to 13-11 against the Texans. 

The Buffs then conclude the regular season next weekend at Cameron.
