CANYON – Freshman Sarah Climer and senior Dustin Dickson finished the first half of multi events on Thursday as the West Texas A&M men’s and No. 12 women’s track and field teams began the first day of competition in the 2014 Lone Star Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship. The meet this week began early this afternoon and will extend through Saturday evening. Texas A&M-Kingsville is hosting the competition in Kingsville, Texas at Javelina Stadium. The Buffs and Lady Buffs are looking for the season sweep as they each took home the hardware during the indoor season, their first LSC titles in program history. WT also won both LSC Cross Country Championships last fall.
Teams competing at the LSC Championship include Angelo State, Eastern New Mexico, McMurry, Midwestern State (women only), Harding, TAMUK, Texas A&M-Commerce and Tarleton State.

Dickson then started off field events with the long jump in seventh place (6.02m), before finishing eighth (9.37m) in shot put and tying for first place (1.84m) in the high jump.
The decathlon will resume at 10:30 a.m. and the heptathlon at 11 a.m. Friday morning. See the attached “Meet Central” link for more info on tomorrow’s schedule.
