CANYON – West Texas A&M head women’s basketball coach Mark Kellogg announced Tuesday the addition of Garden City Community College (Kan.) transfer Zantaya Davis-Jackson for the 2014-15 season.
“We are thrilled to add Zantaya to our Lady Buff family,” Kellogg said. “She came on really strong this past season at Garden City CC and will add tremendous depth to our post position. Zantaya can run the floor, score with her back to the basket and/or face up and is a really good defender. She will certainly have an immediate impact on our program.”
Davis-Jackson, played last season at Garden City where she played in 27 games and averaged 6.2 points per game and 6.2 rebounds per game helping her team to a 16-14 record in 2013-14.
The Essex County, N.J., native, began her collegiate career at Division I Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Prior to college, she was voted as one of the top seniors at Essex County and one of the best shot blockers there, while in high school. Davis-Jackson was on the honor roll at Malcom X Shabazxz High School in Newark, N.J.
She was voted on the all-defensive team and averaged 5.6 points and five rebounds per game as a senior. Her team finished 33-1 and was one of the top rated girl’s high school programs in New Jersey.
Davis-Jackson joins Lady Buffs spring transfer signees Morgan Dittberner and Michaela Neuhaus, along with three November signees in true freshmen Haley Bruedigam, Emily Hurst and Abby Whyte for the 2014-15 season.
