CANYON, Texas – Former West Texas A&M senior wide receiver/return specialist, Nathan Slaughter, recently signed a free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He becomes the 15th former WT football player with a National Football League team this summer.
Slaughter, a native of Lubbock, Texas, earned first team all-conference honors and led the nation in kick returns at 36.1 yards per return and kick return touchdowns with three this past season. He set the school-record for kick return touchdowns in a season (100, 95, 93) and tied the school career kick returns for touchdowns. He was named LSC Special Teams Player of the Week twice and had a school-record 830 kick return yards this season. Slaughter earned honorable mention all-conference honors in 2011 and 2012, while earning first team all-league accolades in 2013. He was a two-time first team CoSIDA Academic All-America selection.
He also had 516 yards receiving on 50 receptions with three touchdowns. Slaughter also earned Academic All-Conference accolades the last two seasons. Slaughter played in 50 games with 46 starts. He finished his career with 183 receptions for 2,079 yards and 14 touchdowns. He tallied 48 kick returns for 1,395 yards and three touchdowns, while returning three punts for 34 yards.
