McKnight, James and Redfearn Tabbed All-South Central Region Tournament Team


GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.  – Following its first trip to the NCAA South Central Region Tournament, the West Texas A&M baseball team had three players earn all-region tournament accolades as announced by Colorado Mesa University.  WT senior pitcher Dylan James, along with senior outfielder Tyler McKnight and senior shortstop/utility Matt Redfearn earned the honors. 

The Buffs finished the region tournament 2-2 with wins over Tarleton State and Texas A&M Kingsville and losses to Colorado Mesa and Texas A&M-Kingsville.  Colorado Mesa’s Derrick Garcia earned Most Valuable Player honors as he helped lead the Mavericks to the region championship and comeback victories in three games, including the WT game.  WT won a school-record 37 games in 2014 going 37-21.  

Colorado Mesa edged Texas A&M-Kingsville for the championship and berth in the College World Series  in a 7-6 victory Sunday in the “if necessary” game as TAMUK won the first game Sunday handing CMU its first and only loss at home of the season.

James, a native of Las Cruces, N.M., went 1-0 with a 1.12 ERA in a 17-3 win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.  He fanned 12 in the game over eight innings, allowing seven hits, two runs with one earned and four walks as the Javelinas hit just .219 against him.  James leads the nation in strikeouts with 126.

McKnight, native of Durango, Colo., hit .400 for the weekend in four starts in the outfield.  He had eight hits in 20 at bats with six runs scored, one triple and a grand slam.  McKnight slugged .650 with 11 RBI and reached base at a .455 clip.  He made 12 catches with no errors. 

Redfearn, a native of Upland, Calif., hit .524 with a team-high 11 hits in 21 at bats.  He also scored six runs and had two doubles with one home run and knocked in six.  Redfearn slugged .762 and reached base at a .545 clip.
