LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – For the 11th straight week, the Lady Buff of West Texas A&M sit atop of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top-25 Poll announced by the organization’s offices in Louisville, Kentucky on Wednesday morning. The poll is the final regular season release of the 2014 season, the last poll will be released following the DII College World Series.
The Lady Buffs went 1-1 at this last weekend’s Lone Star Conference Tournament held at Schaeffer Park in Canyon with a 4-2 victory over Cameron in the Semifinal round before falling to then #10 Angelo State in the LSC Title game on Saturday afternoon, 5-3 to snap the program’s record 24 game win streak while handing WT its first home loss of the season.
The Lady Buffs picked up 15 of the 16 possible first place votes for a total of 399 points followed by North Georgia (353), Cal State Monterey Bay (351), Humboldt State (310), Tampa (307), Missouri-St. Louis (1 first place, 285), Angelo State (287), Alabama-Huntsville (264), Caldwell (256) and Winona State (252) to round out the top ten. The South Central Region was represented by WT, Angelo State (7th), St. Mary’s (14th) and Texas Woman’s (RV).
WT is the top seed in the South Central Region and will host a four-team double elimination tournament this weekend at Schaeffer Park where the Lady Buffs are 30-1 overall this season. WT will square off with eight seeded Midwestern State on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in a Highway 287 Challenge Cup matchup while fourth seeded Texas Woman’s and fifth seeded Metro State will start off the event with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
