LOUISVILLE – For the ninth straight week, the Lady Buffs of West Texas A&M have remained atop of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II Top-25 Poll announced Wednesday morning. It also marks the third consecutive week that WT was the unanimous selection with all 16 of the first place votes for a perfect total of 400 points.
WT went 6-0 this past week as they outscored their opponents by a margin of 62-7 with doubleheader sweeps of New Mexico Highlands, Eastern New Mexico and UT-Permian Basin to carry an overall record of 46-4 with a 19-4 mark in Lone Star Conference play into the final weekend of the regular season to sit in a tie for first place in the league standings. WT carries a program record 19 game win streak into this weekend’s LSC showdown with #7 Angelo State at Schaeffer Park in Canyon to decide the LSC Champion and the host of the league’s postseason tournament.
The Lady Buffs picked-up all 16 first place votes for a total of 400 points followed by Alabama-Huntsville (365), Cal State Monterey Bay (358), Missouri-St. Louis (341), North Georgia (335), Humboldt State (309), Angelo State (295), Minnesota St. Mankato (273), Tampa (269) and Caldwell (263) to round out the top ten. The South Central Region was represented by WT, Angelo State (7th), St.Mary’s (11th) and Texas Woman’s (25th).
The Lady Buffs return to action this weekend as they host the #7 Rambelles of Angelo State in a four-game Lone Star Conference series to decide the 2014 conference champion starting on Friday night with a doubleheader at 5 p.m. followed by a pair of games on Saturday afternoon with first pitch set for 1 p.m. as WT celebrates Military Appreciation Weekend. The regular season LSC champion also gains the right to host the LSC Tournament, the six team single-elimination tournament will take place on May 2-3.
