CANYON – The 2014 edition of the West Texas A&M Buffalo Club Golf Classic, sponsored by Blackmon Mooring, was the most successful in the 39-year history of the event as it profited $40,000 for the Buffalo Club, which will support student-athlete scholarships, this past Friday at Palo Duro Creek Golf Course in Canyon.
“There are lots of fundraising tournaments in the Amarillo/Canyon area, but the Buffalo Club Golf Classic is unique due to its longevity and the interaction participants get with the WT student-athletes,” WT head women’s golf coach and co-tournament director Meredith Jameson said. “The tournament began in 1975 as a fundraiser for the Buffalo basketball team. It was one of the first charity tournaments. 2015 will be the Buffalo Club Golf Classic’s 40th year and we are looking forward to a great turnout as we raise funds for the Buffalo Club, which benefits WTAMU student-athletes.”
The event began with a lunch at 12 p.m. sponsored by Feldman’s Wrong Way Diner followed by 28 teams playing golf and concluded with a dinner sponsored by Texas Roadhouse.
“I’m very pleased with the turnout of players and corporate sponsorships from the event,” Jameson said. “It’s great to have the community step up and support our home town team.”

"It was great to see all the athletes at the Buffalo Club Golf Tournament,” head WT men’s golf coach and co-tournament director Eric Moore said. “Our athletes at WT are the best, they are friendly and really interacted with all the players in the tournament. As a coach and co-tournament director, it is an awesome feeling knowing your athletes are representing WT in a fantastic way. You could feel the excitement in the air for the upcoming athletics year."
