18 WT Athletes Receive USTFCCCA Outdoor Track & Field All-Region Honors


NEW ORLEANS, La. – The West Texas A&M men’s and women’s track & field teams had a combined 18 student-athletes given Outdoor Track & Field All-Region honors Monday evening by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). For the Buffs, 10 made the list with two athletes being honored in two separate events. The No. 15 Lady Buffs had eight individuals honored with four in multiple events.

The top five individuals in each event from each region earned the All-Region distinction, in addition to each of the members of the regions’ top three relay teams. The regions used for this award match those used during the cross country season (South Central Region).

Nine of the 10 Buffs honored Monday also received the award during the 2014 indoor season. Junior Jerell Banks and sophomore Zach Weatherly were both honored in two different events.

Sophomore Libby Strickland led the way for the Lady Buffs as she was distinguished in six different events, all of which she is a provisional qualifier for. Junior Sharon Kwarula was named All-Region in four events while junior Rhemecka Graham and senior Rachel King were honorees in two each. Six of the eight were also given named to the 2014 Indoor All-Region team.

Jessie Thomas - 4x400m Relay

WT will compete in the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championship on May 22-24 in Allendale, Mich. The meet will be hosted by Grand Valley State University.
