WTAMU and AC Renew Destination WT Agreement

CANYON -- Officials from West Texas A&M University and Amarillo College signed papers renewing the Destination WT partnership agreement today.
Dr. J. Patrick OBrien, WTAMU president, and Dr. Paul Matney, AC president, signed the first Destination WT agreement in 2010, and today's signing will reiterate the collaborative relationship between the two institutions to provide greater educational opportunities and services for students.
The renewal of the agreement comes on the heels of the April 24 purchase of the Commerce Building by the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation (AEDC). The building, located at 720 S. Tyler, will undergo renovations and when completed, AEDC will turn the stand-alone structure over to the University as a facility for the WTAMU Amarillo Center. The signing of the transfer agreement will reflect a continued show of support of WTAMUs presence in Amarillo and recognize the roles of both institutions-AC will provide continuing education, certificate and associate degree programs, and WTAMU will provide continuing education, upper level and graduate degree programs at both the Amarillo Center and the Canyon campus.
The renewed partnership will continue to save participating community college students time and money when taking the next step toward their educational goals. Students will be encouraged to earn an associate degree and/or as many transferable academic credits as possible before transferring to WTAMU; in turn, the partnership agreement will include a reverse transfer process where Amarillo College is able to award associate degrees to former students who earn the required credit at WTAMU.
Benefits for community college students who participate in Destination WT include a waiver of the WTAMU application fee, admission to the students intended program of study, and invitations to attend selected sporting, cultural and special events at WTAMU for free. Scholarships of up to $1,500 are guaranteed through the program.
