Woman Dies After Crash Near Clarendon

CLARENDON - The Texas Department of Public Safety was called to a two-vehicle crash on Wednesday on US-287 in Donley County, resulting in the death of one person.

At around 2:00 p.m. on Oct. 25, Donna Mays, 71, of Duncanville, TX was driving east on US-287, 11 miles west of Clarendon.

DPS officials say Mays rapidly approached a pickup truck traveling east in the same lane.

We are told The driver of the pickup truck had the hazard lights activated and was escorting slow-moving farm equipment.

Officials say Mays attempted to avoid colliding into the rear of the pickup truck and lost control of her vehicle.

Mays vehicle traveled across the center median into the westbound lane and crashed head-on into a truck tractor.

We are told both vehicles caught fire and were completely destroyed. 

Mays was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the truck tractor were both transported to a hospital in Amarillo where they were treated and released.

It is unknown if Mays was wearing a seat belt due to the extensive damage to her vehicle.
