AMARILLO – City of Amarillo Utility Department continues to repair a water main break that occurred Monday morning on 8th Avenue between S. Milam and S. Austin, just west of the 8th Avenue Overpass.
Due to the location, crews could not complete the repairs due to the break’s proximity to the tapping valve. As a result, an 18-inch water main will need to be shut off Wednesday afternoon to allow for the replacement of the 6-inch valve, which is leaking slightly.
The water will be turned off from Noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 27 between SW 8th and Line Avenues from McMasters to Rusk and between SW 8th and San Jacinto from Tennessee to Carolina. Staff is placing door tags at residences that will be affected by the water shut off.
The 8th Avenue Overpass between Crockett to Austin will remain closed to traffic in both directions for the remainder of the week until paving repairs are completed.
