Burning Train Rains Fire on River
(WAVE) Fire crews remained near a bridge separating New Albany, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky overnight Monday, putting out hotspots after over the Ohio River raged for hours.
Two train cars caught fire around 6:05 p.m. Monday after flames began in the railroad ties, Louisville firefighters said. At least 100 firefighters from Louisville and New Albany worked to battle the fire, and three New Albany firefighters were recovering from heat-related illnesses.
After trying to extinguish the flames using fire boats in the Ohio River and hoses carried out to the bridge deck, crews broke the train around 8:30 p.m. and got the flaming cars off the structure.
