Valdez, Alaska -
(KTUU) Alaska's Richardson Highway remains closed after two avalanches created a snow dam that Department of Transportation officials say is holding back large amounts of water.
The new lake blocking the highway has completely cut off the town of Valdez.
The depth of the water remains unknown, but officials say snow removal will not proceed on either side of the dam out of fear of water surges that could endanger the lives of DOT workers.
